Buying a cabin bed takes time because your child will spend a lot of time in and around it so you want it to be safe and child-friendly but also fun and decorative at the same time. This goes for all types of children furniture, not only beds, of course. The term that is often used is also bunk beds, but it is more commonly used in USA and does not exactly describe what cabin beds are all about. Metal bunk beds are pretty rare, those made of pvc and upvc are probably the second most common material. A pine cabin bed is easily maintainable and gives the room a very healthy and natural look. You can easily decorate it, but as I always say – have in mind it is the piece of furniture your child will spend a fair portion of his life in so make sure you use only materials that are based on natural materials and are not hazardous towards health. But naturally, you should have that in mind when decorating any piece of children furniture, not just beds.

Cabin beds are designed for children, there is no question about that, I am yet to see a cabin bed meant for adult to sleep in (a business niche perhaps? ). But there are differences between cabin beds for girls and cabin beds for boys but also between those that are built for very small children and those for older ones.

Cabin beds for small children are mostly dedicated to the safety of your child. The space below the bed is generally equipped with many drawers so you can have your baby’s clothes very close when you need them. The decoration does not play the most important part at this stage, the cabin bed for a baby must be practical more than anything else.

As your children grow, there is less need for the extra storage space. They get less dirty, so you need less clothes, you do not need diapers any more so that extra space below the bed can be used for more playful purposes. We have already discussed many different motifs that are popular for girls cabin beds and those that are most common with boys cabin beds so I will not go over that again.

Hi!

My name is Matthew and I’m from Bristol, England. I’m 10 years old and have just recently gotten my very first pirate children cabin bed. It was a birthday gift from my parents and it was perfect. Is’ shaped like a pirate ship and has windows painted on the side drawers. It even has a large parrot attached to the leg-side part of the frame. Sometimes I like to take the drawers out so I have space underneath the bed so I can pretend to be a real pirate.
