Although cabin beds are the best possible choice from my point of view (what can I say, I just love them) there are times when bunk beds are simply the more suitable choice of children beds. Considering that cabin beds for boys and cabin beds for girls are very practical because they provide the extra storage space it is somewhat odd I would recommend bunk beds when in fact you haven’t enough room. The reason for this is simple as with lack of space I mean the situation when there are two (or more) children in one room and there isn’t enough space for two cabin beds.

A bunk bed comes extremely handy in these situations considering you only use the same amount of floor area as if there was only a single bed in the room considering the other bed is on the top of the first. Children cabin beds cannot be placed in the same manner considering there would be no more space for the storage any more and that really ends the purpose of having a children’s cabin bed.

You should keep in mind though that your child should by no means feel the lack of the fun factor simply because you had to choose a bunk bed over a cabin bed. There are ways to decorate and improve bunk beds as well. Just because there is no storage room doesn’t mean you shouldn’t turn a bunk bed into a car for boys or into a doll house for girls. Use your imagination, some wood and colours and create a cabin bed lookalike. Let your children help you decorating it and make it a days of fun for an entire family. With a bit of creativity the end product will be just as much fun as a children’s cabin bed.

Although this website is mostly about cabin beds, it is only fair to speak a few words about bunk beds for kids as well. The two types of beds are very similar so bunk beds really fit into the context of the website.

Although a cabin bed looks like a children’s bunk bed there are a few differences that we need to mention. A bunk bed is primarily intended to save space when you have two children sharing a room. The basic idea is to put one bed on top of another and go with height instead of putting them next to each other and using valuable floor space that can be used for so many more useful activities or perhaps some other pieces of furniture.

This is the main difference in comparison to a cabin bed where there is only one bed on top of a structure that contains closets and drawers instead of the bottom bed and the space between beds. Both types also require a ladder or steps to make climbing to the top bed easier.

Pine Bunk Beds for Kids

There is not much difference in the types of material that is used to make a cabin bed or a bunk bed for kids. The most common type of material is wood, especially pine. Aluminium is also used sometimes, while metal is used very rarely. Wood is a natural material and is as such highly recommended for kids rooms.

Although both types of beds are similar in the way they look, there are not many opportunities when you would have to choose between them. If you have only one child you will certainly not look for a bunk bed for kids considering there are two beds and you need only one. And when you have two children and a lack of space you will probably not stuff two children’s cabin beds in their room but rather buy a bunk bed and save space.
